Yes — our Ohio 24-Hour Driver Education Courses for Teens, Adults, and Limited Term License applicants are fully approved by the Ohio BMV (Approval #4362-3034). Your certificate is official and accepted at every Ohio BMV location statewide. Our 4-Hour Adult Abbreviated Course is also fully BMV-approved and available now.
You can start the 24-hour online classroom course at age 15 years and 5 months. You're eligible for your Ohio Temporary Instruction Permit Identification Card (TIPIC) at 15 years and 6 months once you've finished the classroom hours and passed the BMV knowledge test.
Yes — and we have you covered. Anyone applying for an Ohio Limited Term License or Temporary Instruction Permit Identification Card (TIPIC) — including individuals on a work visa, student visa, asylum, DACA, or other proof of legal presence — must complete the Ohio Limited Term 24-hour driver education course. Unlike the standard adult process, Ohio requires all Limited Term applicants to complete the full 24-hour course regardless of age, even if you are 21 or older. Our Limited Term course is specifically designed for Limited Term License applicants and fully meets Ohio BMV requirements. After completion, students receive the official Ohio Online Education Certificate (OEC). The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles makes the determination of what driver education is required based upon the type of visa. We recommend you stop into your local BMV to determine what coursework is required, or visit the BMV online at bmv.ohio.gov.
You'll bring proof of legal presence in the U.S. — typically a valid work visa, student visa (F-1/M-1/J-1), I-94, Employment Authorization Document (EAD), or paperwork showing asylum, DACA, refugee, or other lawful status — along with proof of Ohio residency and your HelloDrive 24-hour Ohio certificate. The Ohio BMV's Acceptable Documents list is the authoritative checklist.
It's the same 24 hours of Ohio BMV-approved curriculum at the same $75 price, with the same official Ohio driver education certificate at the end. The Limited Term License path is just a different set of BMV documents at license pickup, not a different course.
Yes — if you're under 21, Ohio law requires 24 hours of classroom (online) instruction plus 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training before you can take your road test. Adults 21 and older with an active Temporary Permit can usually go straight to the BMV for testing without an upfront course. (If an adult fails the road test on their first attempt, Ohio requires a 4-hour Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course before retesting.)
HelloDrive's Ohio 24-hour course for teens is $75 — a flat, transparent rate with no hidden fees and the certificate included. Our 4-hour Abbreviated Adult course is $65. Compared with national chains that often run $89–$140 with add-ons, HelloDrive is built to give Ohio students a lot more value: short interactive lessons, mini-games, gamified progress, and a phone-first experience.
Definitely not. Ohio limits students to a maximum of 4 hours per day on the 24-hour course, so the training is designed to be completed over time — not all at once. Most students learn better by working on the course a little each day instead of trying to complete large chunks at one time. You can log in and out whenever you want, and your progress automatically saves across phone, tablet, and computer. You also have up to 6 months to finish the 24-hour course, giving you plenty of flexibility to work at your own pace.
You have 6 months from your start date to complete all 24 hours. Most students finish in 2-4 weeks at a relaxed pace.
Yes — HelloDrive is built mobile-first. The whole course works on iPhone or Android in any browser, with no app to install today. Lessons are designed in short 5–15 minute chunks so you can do them on a bus, between classes, or during a lunch break. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon for an even smoother experience.
No. HelloDrive provides the required 24-hour classroom (theory) portion. After you finish, you take your certificate to a local Ohio driving school for the 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training Ohio requires before your road test.
Ohio requires students to complete 50 hours of supervised driving practice before taking the road test. This total includes at least 10 hours of nighttime driving. These 50 practice hours are separate from the required 8 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction completed with a licensed driving school.
After you pass the final exam, HelloDrive will process and issue your official Ohio driver training certificate within approximately 3–5 business days. As soon as it's ready, we'll email it to you right away. You'll then take or email your certificate to your local driving school to schedule your required 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training.
A passing score is 75%. If you don't pass, you can retake the exam after 24 hours, up to 3 attempts at no extra cost. Unlimited practice tests inside the app help most students pass on the first try.
It's officially called the Ohio Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course. Ohio requires this 4-hour course for adults (21+) who fail their first attempt at the BMV maneuverability or road test — it must be completed before you can retest. It's also useful as voluntary test prep for any first-time adult driver. HelloDrive's 4-hour course is online, BMV-approved, $65, and finishable in a single afternoon.
Yes. Every student account includes a free parent/guardian dashboard so the adult on file can monitor progress in real time. Parents can view lesson completion, quiz scores, course activity, and learning streaks to help keep students on track. When a student under 18 enrolls, HelloDrive automatically sends the parent or guardian a free dashboard invite; students aged 18–20 can opt in to share a parent/guardian dashboard if they'd like.
HelloDrive was built specifically for Ohio drivers and Ohio BMV requirements — not adapted from a generic 50-state course template. Our training is designed around real Ohio laws, Ohio testing requirements, and the Ohio licensing process. HelloDrive also focuses on a more modern student experience with gamified lessons, mobile-friendly learning, lower pricing than many national companies, and support (phone, chat and email) from a real Ohio-based team. Plus, native iOS and Android apps are coming soon to make learning even easier on the go.
Ohio road tests are given at Ohio BMV Driver Exam Stations. Before scheduling your test, you must have your valid Ohio TIPIC (permit), your completed 24-hour Ohio driver education certificate from HelloDrive, your completed 8 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction from a licensed driving school, and your completed 50 hours of supervised driving practice (including 10 nighttime hours) signed by a parent or guardian if required by Ohio law.
